Beth Eden Baptist Church, Savannah

Beth Eden Baptist Church, located in the historic center of Savannah, is an example of both spiritual significance and architectural beauty. Situated at the corner of Lincoln Street and E. Built in 1893, Beth Eden was designed by the Berlin-born architect Henry Urban, who was well-known for his work and had close ties with William Preston of Boston. This church, which originated from the Second African Baptist congregation, showcases the impressive Neo-Gothic architectural style. Urban, renowned for his architectural skills, is also recognized for his involvement in the interior reconstruction of Christ Church following the 1897 fire and his contributions to the intricate brickwork of the Foley Inn and the DeSoto Hotel.

The interior of Beth Eden Baptist Church is itself a marvel, demonstrating how a spacious environment can be ingeniously accommodated within a limited space. Visitors are often captivated by the historical elements that adorn the church, such as the original stained glass windows and the unique combination of gas and electric light fixtures. One of the most remarkable features of the church is the vibrant frieze located above the choir loft, which presents a modern interpretation of the Last Supper.
