Kannenfeldpark, Basel

The Kannenfeldpark is 9.1 hectares in area the largest park in the Swiss city of Basel; it is located in the St. Johann district.

The park was built in 1951. Previously was located on the eponymous "optional field" that before the demolition was used as arable land the city walls, a 1868 erected cemetery. The so-called Gottesacker on the Kannenfeld was expanded for the last time in 1912 and closed in 1932. Some of the graves were relocated, such as that of the pastor poet Jonas Breitenstein at his most important place of work, Binningen. In addition to the mighty entrance portal on Burgfelderstrasse, the enclosure wall, the gardener's house and some monuments remain from the former cemetery.

There is a Chinese parasol tree in Kannenfeldpark, which was planted on November 19, 2016 and christened the tree of poetry. There was already a tree of poetry planted on March 28, 1981 on Kannenfeldplatz , but it can no longer be found today.

Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) operate stops for tram line 1 and for bus lines 36, 38 and 50 at Kannenfeldplatz in front of it .
