St Jude Chapel, Dallas

St Jude Chapel, Dallas

Saint Jude Chapel is located in the heart of downtown Dallas on Main Street. This sacred space opened its doors on April 29, 1968, and was dedicated later that year on September 15, marking the fulfillment of a vision held dear by Arthur C. Hughes and a group of his friends for over 25 years. The chapel's inception was driven by a desire to maintain a Catholic presence in the bustling urban center, catering to the spiritual needs of the business community, local residents, and visitors alike.

The chapel offers daily Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, alongside a gift shop that provides an array of religious articles and candles. It honors Saint Jude, the patron saint of hopeless causes, inviting individuals from all denominations to seek solace and spiritual guidance within its walls. Visitors are encouraged to pray, meditate, and request Saint Jude's intercession for their spiritual needs.

Designed with an intimate setting, Saint Jude Chapel can accommodate up to 350 attendees, ensuring a close proximity to the sanctuary for all. The chapel's interior boasts exquisite craftsmanship with altars, marble work sourced from the Carrera mountains in Italy, and a captivating mosaic of the Risen Christ that underscores the core tenet of Christianity—resurrection and eternal life. Additionally, the chapel houses revered statues of Mary, Regina Mundi (Queen of the Universe), and Saint Jude, its patron saint, each enshrined along its walls.

The chapel's stained glass windows depict the Fourteen Stations of the Cross, illustrating the suffering, death, and ultimately the life-giving resurrection of Jesus Christ. A communion rail adorned with twelve panels commemorates the apostles, employing symbols that have represented them through the ages. The baldacchino above the altar centers the worship space, while a vibrant modern mosaic at the front entrance by Gyorgy Kepes depicts a Sunburst, symbolizing the glory of the Son of God as the source of life and sustenance.
