Statue of Louis XIV, Montpellier
The Statue of Louis XIV was installed in the eighteenth century. The master who assembled it was Jean-Antoine Giral, the sculptor of the Water Castle. The idea of the design was that of Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Louis XIV is installed at the highest point in Montpellier on a marble pedestal. The monument has a Latin inscription which says: "The States of Languedoc dedicated this monument to Louis the Great in his lifetime and have erected it after his death in 1718".
