Being the largest city in New Mexico, Albuquerque features a wide range of amazing tourist attractions. Even though this city is not famous for a large number of skyscrapers, it has a unique and spectacular architecture. The buildings are especially beautiful at night when their exterior is illuminated in different colors. This walking tour will guide you through some of the most famous architecture in Albuquerque.

Compass Bank Building
1) Compass Bank Building
The Compass Bank Building was built in 1968. It is an 18-story high-rise, being the third tallest building in Albuquerque. At the time of its completion the Compass Building was the tallest in New Mexico. Today, it houses the Compass Bank and the Keller & Keller Law Firm.

Albuquerque Petroleum Building
2) Albuquerque Petroleum Building
The Petroleum Building is Albuquerque's fourth tallest building. It was built in 1986. It was designed by Dwayne Lewis Architects in the Modernist architectural style. The building features 15 stories. On the 15th floor, it houses the Petroleum Club Restaurant that offers amazing views of Sandia Mountain and Albuquerque City.

Albuquerque Plaza
3) Albuquerque Plaza
The Albuquerque Plaza, built in 1990, is located in Downtown Albuquerque. It is the tallest building in the city. It is in the Postmodern architectural style and has an amazing design. The building consists of two towers, one of which houses the Hyatt Regency hotel, while the other offers class A office space. The Plaza is famous for its amazing elevators that travel at a speed of approximately 750 feet per minute and 1000 feet per minute.

First National Bank Building
4) First National Bank Building
The First National Bank Building was built in 1922 and it is the city's first skyscraper. The building is in the Renaissance Revival architectural style. The First National Bank is an L-shaped building with 9 stories that will amaze any visitor with its beautiful architecture and design. The building has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.

Sunshine Building
5) Sunshine Building
The Sunshine Building was constructed in 1924 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This amazing 6 story building houses the famous Sunshine Theater, and also some retail and office space. The building's highlights are the bright yellow brick veneer, and the only attendant-operated elevator in the Southwest.

Occidental Life Building
6) Occidental Life Building
The Occidental Life Building is considered one of the most beautiful landmarks in New Mexico, and is a unique example of the United States Venetian Gothic architectural style. It was constructed in 1917. The building features spectacular Gothic arches capped by a row of quatrefoils, and a unique terra cotta facade.

Old Post Office of Albuquerque
7) Old Post Office of Albuquerque
The Old Post Office of Albuquerque was built in 1908. It is located near the U.S. Courthouse. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Post Office is the oldest surviving federal building in Albuquerque. The building is in the Tuscan architectural style and has an amazing design. Today the Old Post Office houses the Amy Biehl High School.

Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse
8) Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse
The Federal Building and the United States Courthouse is one of Albuquerque's main landmarks. It was built in 1930. The building is in the Spanish Revival architectural style. This historic landmark along with the Old Post Office and the Dennis Chavez Federal Building form the complex of federal buildings on Gold Avenue.
Kimo Theater
9) Kimo Theater
Kimo Theater, built in 1927 is one of the most famous landmarks of Albuquerque. It is very famous, especially for the Pueblo-Deco style that the building features. Both the interior and the exterior of this three story building are of an amazing design, with spectacular indigenous decorative motifs.
