Coconut Grove is rich in various attractions such as Coconut Grove Playhouse, CocoWalk, Green Street Cafe, a diversity of nightclubs, bars and restaurants. Below you are offered a self-guided tour of famous Coconut Grove in Miami.
1) The Coconut Grove Playhouse
This legitimate theatre is located in the Coconut Grove region of Miami. Today, it has closed its doors because of debt issues but in its heyday it was known as one of the finest theaters in the country.
The Coconut Grove Playhouse opened as the Players State Theater in 1927. It was owned at the time by Paramount Studio. The Mediterranean style building was designed by architects Kiehnel and Elliot and had the largest Wurlitzer organ in the United States. It was also the second air conditioned theater in the East Coast. It was purchased in the 1950s by a wealthy businessman with interests in oil and was converted into a legitimate theater with the help of architect, Alfred Browning Parker. It had two stages, the Proscenium Mainstage Theater could seat 1700, spectators and the smaller Encore Room Theater with only 100 seats.
The Coconut Grove Playhouse opened in 1956 with the US premier of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. From 1956, to 2007, the theater hosted several well known plays and many well known stars like Liza Minnelli, George. C. Scott and Ethel Merman have given memorable performances here. In 1982, actor, director Jose Ferrer became the theater’s artistic director and made it one of the country’s leading playhouses. Today, the theater is closed and waits for a new reopening.

2) Maya Hatcha
A Miami landmark, open since 1968, Maya Hatcha is a shop that sells lovely ethnic clothing, incense, exotic oils, ethnic jewelry, and many other unusual items from around the world.

3) CocoWalk
Cocowalk is a complex of shops and outdoor cafes, or, better say, is a Mediterranean-style shopping village. Cocowalk features specialty stores, a movie theater, nightclubs and several galleries. It is a fantastic place to shop and have fun.

4) Anokha
Anokha is considered by many to be the best Indian restaurant in Miami. The restaurant features a quiet setting, classy and romantic atmosphere, amazing Indian food, the friendliest staff. The menu consists of dishes from almost all the parts India. Lunch time offers exquisite vegetarian or meat thali served on a silver tray.

5) Improv Comedy Club
Improv is an awesome comedy club located on the third floor of Streets of Mayfair, where you can see your favorite comic and eat delicious food. The comedians and their jokes are hilarious. Classic cocktails and specialty drinks are served. It is a place to relax and laugh a lot.

6) Out of Africa
Out of Africa is a trendy and popular shop situated at the Streets of Mayfair. It sells African Art and collectibles - collection of masks, beads, and jewelry. Visit this place to buy some unusual souvenirs for your family or friends.

7) Peacock Park
A visit to the park after a long walk would be fantastic. Peacock Park is located not far from CocoWalk store. It features a large grassy field, a playground for kids, and a skate park for teens. Skaters and bikers will appreciate the wood and steel ramps of the park, especially because the rest of Miami is generally flat as a pancake.
