San Jose’s nightlife is very versatile, but most of the night time entertainment activity takes place in the down town area often called Gringo Gulch. 1) Chelles
Chelles is a typical downtown bar in San Jose. It retains its classic charm with Formica-topped card tables and mirrors on the walls. The bar has a casual ambience and is a good place to enjoy the local Imperial beer and watch sports on a big screen. The venue has no holidays, and stays open 24/7.

2) New York Bar
The New York bar has been established by a former New Yorker who wanted to have a piece of his native city in a Latin American country. The place is a classic American bar saloon, and that is why it is always full of expats from the US, rather than tourists. The place serves reasonably priced drinks and decent bar food.

3) El Tunel del Tiempo Disco
The El Tunel del Tiempo Disco is a chic bi-level dance spot ideally situated on the Avenida Central in San Jose. The Disco is fully equipped with the latest entertainment equipment, for the laser shows, foam parties and much more. The interior is postmodern; there are 2 bars, a large dance floor that cab accommodate up to 500 people. The music always comes first in this discotheque.

4) Nashville Bar
The Nashville Bar represents a country-western bar saloon located in downtown San José. It attracts its visitors with a western décor and country music played in the background. The bar might look small but it’s been a well-known spot for more than 20 years. The place is very friendly and family-oriented, with plenty of room to dance.

5) Dos Gringos Bar
The Dos Gringos Bar is a bar with a great atmosphere in San Jose. The rumor has it that it is owned by a longtime American resident of Costa Rica. They offer a large variety of drinks and mouth-watering snacks. It’s the perfect choice to meet new friends, socialize with others and drink your favorite beer.
6) Key Largo
The Key Largo is a stylish bar in downtown San Jose which is really worth visiting. It features three separate bar areas that are combined together to create an elegant environment for sampling classic cocktails, and much more. There is live entertainment at all times, as well as a large dance floor.

7) Salsa 54
Salsa 54 is the place to go if you are a Salsa lover or just like Salsa. Salsa is a form of dance genre created by Spanish-speaking people from the Caribbean, so no wonder it is so popular in Costa Rica. Here you can improve your Salsa moves assisted by a local, to the romantic bolero beats. The atmosphere is always great, as well as the local Imperial beer.
