Dundas Street is alive with an ever-changing mix of eclectic artworks in its commercial art galleries. Many showcase Scottish contemporary works or creations with a Scottish theme. You can browse and purchase beautiful landscapes or something more cutting edge and abstract. Your art tour of the area will take you to some of the finest galleries in Scotland's capital city. In fact, most of the independent galleries in Edinburgh are located here. Take your time examining the many delightful pieces that are on show. Find work by established and up-and-coming artists and be inspired by the beauty of their creative endeavors. Get into conversations with the knowledgeable dealers and gallery owners to discover more about the artists and the motivations and inspirations behind their works. Visit the Scottish Gallery, known for its displays of contemporary and 20th century Scottish painting by artists such as Penelope Beaton, William Baillie and Philip Braham. Here you can also see objects in ceramics, glass and silver. Among the other galleries to check out are Hanover Fine Arts, the Edinburgh Gallery and the Torrance Gallery. This was founded in 1970 and was the first contemporary art gallery on Dundas Street.
