Eyre Square
1) Eyre Square
This is the place where locals go for a picnic, a walk or to just meet. Ever since medieval times, this place has had a special significance for Galway as a central market place, a site to elect the mayors and just a square for the people living here and travelers to meet. Named after the mayor who made it public and the dedicated it to honor President John F. Kennedy, the square represents the real life of the city.

Galway Port
4) Galway Port
This is the place to get a wonderful view of the city, the ocean, and the port houses of the Claddagh. Many locals come here to feed the swans or just to take a walk. The port plays a major role in the life of Galway's citizens as it gives them access to the Atlantic Ocean, facilitates commerce and is the everyday workplace of many fishermen. Here you can see their "simple life" and the link between man and nature.

Mutton Island Lighthouse
5) Mutton Island Lighthouse
The lighthouse here was built on the site of an old castle which was more a fortress, existing sometime in the 1600s. The lighthouse was built in 1817. The unique element of this place is that this lighthouse was one of the few that allowed the keeper and his family to live here. The locals usually go for a walk on the beach near the impressive lighthouse.
