Feast your eyes on a realm of architectural beauty when you tour Prague's Hradcany or Castle District. It is situated in the historic center of Prague, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This most beautiful part of the city encompasses historical palaces and monuments and provides wonderful insights into the past. Devote some time to wandering the passageways and ramparts and exploring the inner chambers of Prague Castle, the largest castle complex in the world. Unsurprisingly, this ancient fortified area, sitting on a hill high above the city is a spectacular sight. In the neighborhood surrounding the castle, find Nový Svět, or New World Street. This small locale has always been a magnet for artists and is a real gem with its walled streets, small houses, art galleries and old street lights. Go to Hradčanské Náměstí, or Hradčanské Square. This is a grand plaza surrounded by several imposing palaces, including the Archbishop's Palace, the Martinicky Palace, the Schwarzenberg Palace and the Tuscany Palace. Many of these beautiful buildings are open to the public. During your visit to the district, check out the Radnické schody (Town Hall Stairs), a magnificent staircase. At the foot of the steps are the baroque statues of St. Joseph with Infant Jesus and of St. John of Nepomuk.
