Mumbai is a true shopper's paradise where you'll find everything India has to offer. Shopping in the city is always a fun and exciting experience, whether you're interested in the bargaining game of street shopping or luxury stores. This tour will guide you through the best places to shop in the city.
1) Chor Bazaar
One of the most fascinating places in Mumbai is the Chor Bazaar. Chor, which literally translates to “thief”, and hence culminates to the thief market, is one of the best places to witness the true essence and flavour of street shopping in Mumbai. Essentially a flea market, it has virtually everything, from a genuine spare part of a Mercedes car to an authentic Ming vase here.
A popular destination for tourists, the Chor Bazaar is where you can literally shop till you drop. Don’t feel shy to haggle shamelessly, for this is one place where you just don’t pay what the salesmen's price. Popular picks at the market are old Bollywood posters, antique junk, spare parts, beautiful clocks, old lamp shades and other trinkets. Dense with shoppers and filled with back to back shops and hawkers, the Chor Bazaar is definitely a place to visit.
Located near the Bhendi Bazzar, in South Mumbai, it is very close to the Crawford Market. Although weekends are a good time to visit the Bazaar, the best time would be Friday, as the sellers replenish their stock. A word of advice - you can also expect many more hopefuls on Fridays, so be prepared for a crowd.

2) Zaveri Bazaar
For all the shopaholics at heart, Mumbai is just the place to be. Filled with age old markets, weekly bazaars and high-end air conditioned stores, Mumbai is a paradise for shoppers of all stripes.
Cramped with people in small alleys and dotted with shops all along the road, the Zaveri Bazaar, is a must visit if you love jewellery. Located just north of the Crawford Market, the Zaveri Bazaar, is one of the most famous jewellery markets in the whole country. It is estimated that a chunky 65% of all the gold trading in the country is done at this place. Along with gold, precious metals and stones, it is an excellent place for imported, custom made toys, high end dinner sets and other luxurious items.
One of the country’s most celebrated jewellers - Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ), first established their business at the Zaveri Bazaar in 1864. Spread across India and venturing into the overseas market, their main headquarters is in Zaveri Bazaar. It is the perfect place to get lost in the glitz and bling of the jewellery.
Although the market may be the place to get carried away, it is best to do a little research before purchasing any item. Brush up on your communication and don’t be shy to do a little haggling yourself, tenacity is encouraged here!

4) Crawford Market
No visit to any city is complete without touring its busiest and oldest markets, and if you are in a mood for adventure, there is no place like Crawford Market. Located in South Mumbai, Crawford Market is one place, bustling with life and infused with its own blend of sights, sounds and scents.
Spread across an area of 22,471 square metres, the market is filled with fruit and vegetable vendors along with upscale shops that sell imported goods as well as exotic pets. It is here that one can truly appreciate the essence of the city and the regular routine of its denizens.
Built in 1869, the main market was designed Lockwood Kipling, father of the renowned novelist Rudyard Kipling. Boasting a Norman, Flemish architectural style, the building acts as a brilliant example of the addition of western architecture to the Bombay skyline. The building marks the center of the market. An interesting fact about the Crawford Market is that it was the first building in India to be lit up by electricity. Named after the first Municipal commissioner of Bombay - Arthur Crawford, the building was donated to the state by Sir Cowasji Jehangir, 2nd Baronet, a wealthy Indian industrialist. Be well prepared, for this place is a market in every sense of the word.
