The clubs and discos in Kathmandu are concentrated in the Thamel distict, on Thamel street. Though, in the last few years, new entertainment places opened around Pulchowk in Patan, a nearby city, Thamel still remains a fun place to spend the night. Legally, all music has to be turned off by 10 PM, but many clubs manage to stay open until 12 PM or later. Take this self-guided tour to discover the bars and clubs of Kathmandu.
Tour Stops and Attractions
1) Himalayan Java
Himalayan Java is situated in Thamel, above the Bakery Cafe. This place is a popular, humming coffeehouse that offers excellent espresso and cakes. The atmosphere is friendly - lots of sofas, a TV with a big screen for watching football games. It is a popular bar for spending leisure time at night in the company of middle-class Nepalis.

2) Maya Cocktail Bar
The Maya Cocktail Bar is a long-running establishment in the Thamel district. It is the perfect place to have a good cocktail in Kathmandu. Between 4 PM and 7 PM they have happy-hour - you get two cocktails for the price of one. Pub Maya, situated across the road from the Kathmandu Guest House Minitheatre, is connected to the Maya Cocktail Bar and is a somewhat more glamorous choice for the night.

3) Jatra
Jatra is situated on Chakshibari Marg, in one of the most popular districts of Kathmandu - Thamel. Jatra is a pretty cool place to have supper or simply drink a beer in an intimate atmosphere. It has both indoor and outdoor tables. On Friday nights visitors are entertained with live music mixes, on Wednesdays all ladies receive a free cocktail.

4) Tom & Jerry Pub
Tom & Jerry Pub is situated on Chakshibari Marg, near Nargila Restaurant. This place is both a club and a bar. The dance floor is situated upstairs and it gets very rowdy at night. Thursdays are ladies' nights. That means special shows and deals for the beautiful gender. One of the main attractions are the pool tables situated near the dance floor.

5) Full Moon
Full Moon is located on Kwa Bahal, Jyatha, Thamel, near the Tom and Jerry Pub. The small premises in which Full Moon is situated are less noisy. The visitors are usually both Nepalis and foreigners. Full Moon is an excellent place to relax after a wild night of dancing, etc.

6) Sam's Bar
Sam's Bar is situated in the heart of Thamel, the ultimate tourist district of Kathmandu. The charm of this place lies in its cozy atmosphere. Every Saturday, funky reggae shows with live music are organized at Sam's Bar. It is the ultimate place to chill out, while enjoying quality music and having a drink.

7) Rum Doodle Restaurant & Bar
Rum Doodle is the most popular place among tourists. In 1983 Time magazine named Rum Doodle one of the world's best bars, and since then the truth of this statement has been confirmed time and again. It's the favorite meeting place for professional mountaineering expeditions, trekking groups and amateur mountaineers. Here you can listen to live music, enjoy a good steak, pasta and pizza or simply enjoy a good drink and the atmosphere.
