1) Tings 'n Times
Tings 'n Times is a bar, restaurant and music venue inspired by bohemian ideals and permeated by soothing Reggae rhythms. It declares itself to be "a 100% Attitude Free Zone." The menu features a blend of African and Mediterranean cuisines. The club opened its doors in 1995 and moved to its current location in 2005. There is live music on weeknights and DJs on the weekend.

Cool Runnings

Cool Runnings is a Caribbean-themed cafe and bar in the city's Hatfield district. Drinks are inexpensive here and the service is good. It attracts a young crowd, mostly students, and features reggae music. Its brightly painted exterior makes it easy to spot.

Drop Zone, located in Hatfield Square, is a popular venue for music, dancing, and drinking, for students and local residents alike. The musical styles range from South African sokkie to hard rock and metal. The club features top local DJs and drink specials every weeknight. It has a VIP lounge, for those who want to kick back and relax, and a special smoking lounge.

Up the Creek
4) Up the Creek
Up the Creek is an acoustic music venue that has grown since its opening in 2005, while remaining true to its roots. The music played here includes rock, folk, jazz, and world music. Top name rock acts play here occasionally, but the focus is on local acoustic musicians.

Maloney's
5) Maloney's
Maloney's is a traditional English-style pub and sports bar. Although it is located in the "student heartland," it draws a 20s-to-40s crowd and is a good alternative to the louder bars catering to a younger set. All the main local sport events and many important world matches are shown on numerous TV screens. Live music is presented on some nights of the week.
