El Malecone stretches for 15 km along the shore. It is a very beautiful street to walk, where one can admire the beauty of the Dominican Republic while cherishing first-class ice cream. El Malecone is not only a popular attraction for tourists, but also a hot spot for locals as well. Make sure you check it out during your time in Santo Domingo.
1) Statue of Fray Anton de Montesinos
Statue of Fray Anton de Montesinos is quite a visible landmark. The 30 meter high statue depicts the famous colonial Dominican priest who stood up for native population during times of colonial repressions in the 16th century. The statue was a gift from the Mexican Government.

2) Obelisco Hembra
Some simply refer to this monument as "OH". One obelisk is considered to be female, while the other a male. The two columns of this monument symbolically stand for the liberation of foreign debt. The monument was erected in 1940, in order to commemorate this historical feat.

3) Fuerte de San Gil
Fuerte de San Gil was created between the years 1503 and 1510. The special landmark is composed of its left half (toward the sea) constructed in polygonal form with five sides and two hoods. The three-sided Fort San Gil once served as protection from both sides of the beach as well as the sea. It is a wonderful place to spend some time at night.

4) Plaza Juan Baron
Plaza Juan Baron is one of the most important areas of Malecone. The large plaza (approx. 3902.46 sq. meters) offers a large variety of interesting destinations. The roads inside the plaza are designed for people who like to walk and ride bicycles as they wander through the plethora of restaurants and shops.

5) Mirabal Sistrers Obelisco
Mirabal Sistrers Obelisco Tower is very famous and also, very high (137 feet). The tower was created to honor the Mirabal sisters, victims who fought for their beliefs and convictions. The sisters were killed by dictator Trujillo. Thus, Mirabal Sistrers Obelisco is not only a very beautiful tower, but also one with deep significance.

6) Restaurant Adrian Tropical
Restaurant Adrian Tropical is a very famous dining spot. The restaurant is nearly built on the water, which only adds to its appeal. The service is great and food incredibly rich as well as traditional. Visitors generally love the taste of Dominican dishes and beverages, so make sure you dine here at least one night.

7) La playa de Guibia
La playa de Guibia is a beach perfect for sightseeing, swimming, and tanning. The Guibia Beach is also famous for the fact that in 1998, the first professional "bodyboard" contest took place. Love the ocean? Than you'll love La playa de Guibia too.

8) Malecon Center
Malecon Center is a contemporary building with lots to do inside. The building can best be described as a local shopping and entertainment center. Inside, visitors may check out shows at the cinema, dine at one of the many restaurants, or shop for souvenirs.
