1) Ploshtad Aleksandar Nevsky
This open air market is very popular with tourists interested in history, because here you can find all sorts of things from the communist era in Bulgaria. There are medals, postcards, stamps and lots of great antiques.

2) Souvenir Shop in the Royal Palace
If you look for a place to buy Bulgarian souvenirs, the Souvenir Shop is the place to go to. Located at the site of the Ethnographic Museum, this comprehensive store has got Bulgarian embroidery, cardigans, sweaters, dolls, national musical instruments, pottery, woodcarving and lots more.

3) Pirotska Street
Pirotska Street is a pedestrianized street near the TZUM which is famous for its many shops, cafes and hotels. You'll find a great variety of boutique stores on both sides of the street, with a distinct 1990s flavor to the selection.

4) Strash Shop
This shop is a treasure trove for anyone interested in little curios from Bulgarian history. Here you'll find a variety of stamps from different periods of history - including the communist era - as well as vintage cartoons and genuine old postcards.

5) The Women’s Market
The market has got its name from the fact that usually you'll find only women here. Nonetheless it's one of Sofia's biggest markets, with everything from clothes to food, to antiques, to those hard to find items. Popular with locals, it's a great place for visitors to explore as well.
