De Rotterdam, Rotterdam

De Rotterdam, Rotterdam

De Rotterdam, conceived by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1998, stands as an architectural marvel. Nestled between the KPN Tower and Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, this complex reached its completion by the close of 2013. On November 21, 2013, the keys were handed over to the municipality of Rotterdam, its primary occupant. This innovative design encompasses areas for offices, a hotel, and apartments. With a staggering 44 floors, the total floor space sprawls across approximately 160,000 square meters, solidifying its position as the Netherlands' grandest edifice.

Functionally versatile, De Rotterdam harmoniously accommodates living, work, and recreation. The majority of the space is dedicated to offices and residential purposes. Boasting 240 apartments and a vast expanse of 72,000 square meters for offices and conference rooms, the building also houses a subterranean parking facility spanning two levels, capable of holding over 684 vehicles. Additionally, an inviting hotel with 285 rooms finds its place, alongside 1500 square meters allocated for charming cafes and enticing restaurants.

Fitness amenities occupy a substantial 2,500 square meters, while shops thrive in a 5,000 square meters area. These functions are thoughtfully grouped into distinct blocks, yet their paths cross organically throughout the structure, a concept crafted by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, embodying the notion of a vertical city. With an estimated daily footfall of around 5,000 individuals, De Rotterdam holds the distinction of being the most densely constructed enclave in the Netherlands.
