Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya (Catalan Museum of Archaeology), Barcelona

Housed within the Graphic Arts Palace, originally built for the 1929 World Exhibition, Barcelona's primary archaeological collection is a captivating treasure trove of artifacts. Spanning from prehistoric times to the Visigothic period (AD 415-711), the collection prominently showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Roman and Greek epochs.

The collection showcases the mysterious 'talayots' – megalithic structures from the Bronze Age in the Balearic Islands, alongside exquisite displays of Mallorcan Hellenic jewelry and Iberian silver treasures. Among the collection's highlights are the awe-inspiring "Lady of Ibiza" ("Dama d'Eivissa"), a remarkable 4th-century sculpture depicting an intricately adorned goddess, and the startling Roman fertility symbol, Priapus of Hostafrancs, from the 2nd century.

One of the museum's prized possessions is its superb assemblage of artifacts from the ancient Greco-Roman city of Empúries, once the most significant Greek colony on the entire Iberian Peninsula. Visitors can marvel at exquisite mosaics, everyday objects such as oil lamps and amphorae, and an array of statues, including a replica of the renowned Asclepius (with the original remaining in situ). Additionally, the collection boasts a treasure trove of ornate Visigothic jewelry, gem-encrusted belt buckles, helmets, and armor.

In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions.
