Bohnenviertel, Brennerstraße (Bean Quarter, Brennen Street), Stuttgart

The Bohnenviertel district offers its visitors a great range of little hidden shops that you will not find in the other shopping areas. Here visitors are likely to find some unusual and interesting things such as old books, unique jewelry accessories, colorful crafts and attractive antiques. Wine taverns and lovely cafés are lovely additions to this district, a hidden treasure.

Today's Brennerstraße in Bohnenviertel used to be Stuttgart's Jewish quarter. The "Judengasse" (Jewish quarter) began on Esslinger Straße, ran in a south-easterly direction and ended at the level of Weberstraße at the former city wall. It was around 150 meters long. The Jewish families initially lived in the area of Dorotheenstrasse, where they also had a "Jewish school" (synagogue). Since the end of the 14th century, the Jewish settlement was in today's Brennerstrasse.
