Enoteca Buccone (wineshop), Rome

Enoteca Buccone (wineshop), Rome

In Rome, it is possible to find a decent variety of wines in most food shops. However, for a comprehensive selection and expert advice, it is recommended to visit a specialized store. One of the most renowned establishments in this regard is Buccone, conveniently located near Piazza del Popolo.

Dating back to 1969, the iconic wine shop is housed in the former coach house of a noble Roman family. Inside, you will find ten layers of shelves that stretch impressively from floor to ceiling, filled with a diverse range of quality wines and spirits. Prices range from a few euros to several hundred, or even thousand, for rare vintages such as such Brunello di Montalcino.

Buccone also offers various products such as jams, pasta, and packaged candy, making it a perfect place to find affordable gifts. The original wood-beam ceiling, long marble counter, and antique till contribute to the atmosphere.

Why You Should Visit:
While Buccone serves a simple lunch on a daily basis, as well as aperitivo and dinner (reservation required for dinner), it is the ambiance and wine selection that truly distinguish this old shop. Due to its popularity, it is advisable to book a week in advance. Additionally, Buccone offers guided wine tastings, showcasing highlights from Italy's prominent wine-producing regions.
