Casa Agostini (Agostini House), Pisa

Casa Agostini (Agostini House), Pisa

Casa Agostini in Pisa is a great example of medieval architecture from the 13th and 14th centuries. The building shows how they used to build things back then, with visible masonry, pillars, and arches. The ground floor has strong limestone pillars to hold up the rest of the house, while the upper floors are made with cotto, a kind of terracotta, which is both strong and gives the house a nice, natural color.

The house stands out with its four detailed arches on each floor, showing off the craftsmanship of that time. The windows are framed in sandstone, which is both strong and good for making detailed designs, adding to the house's beauty.

The house belonged to the Silk Gaetani (or Caetani) family, a rich and influential family who also owned Villa Corliano. Their choice of a grand house like Casa Agostini shows how wealthy and important they were in medieval Pisa.

What's special about this house in Pisa is its large windows, which were rare in buildings of that era. These big windows suggest that the design focused on more than just protection; they wanted the place to be bright and airy, which was a big deal back then. The house also has a lot of detailed decoration, different from the simpler styles of that time, showing that the owners wanted a place that was both comfortable and looked good.
