Dee and Charles Wyly Theater, Dallas

Dee and Charles Wyly Theater, Dallas

The Dee and Charles Wyly Theater is part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, Texas. It is located in the Arts District in the downtown area. It is one of four parts of the center, and was opened to the general public in 2009. The project was started in 2006. It constitutes a little over 74,000 feet of space available for performances.

The building is quite unusual to say the least, as it may very well be the most strangely shaped building you will ever see. It looks a bit like a large Jenga game. It is twelve stories tall and can hold 600 people, depending upon the way the stage is set up for any particular performance. It is now the home for the Dallas Theater, the Black Dance Theater, and the Martinez Ballet Folklorico.

The thing that makes the theater so unusual is that the design was done so that the traditional space between the audience and performers can be changed, to meet the need of the performance. The play can literally be brought right into the audience seating. It is well worth a visit.
