Established in 1949 as the Florida West Coast Symphony, the Sarasota Orchestra is the oldest active orchestra in Florida, delighting audiences with classical, pop, and family concerts for over seven decades. The Orchestra comprises 80 members and stages more than 100 performances every year.

In addition to its exceptional concerts, the Sarasota Orchestra boasts an education program that includes music lessons and a youth orchestra. The Youth Orchestra, formed in 1959, comprises seven ensembles, with the Youth Philharmonic, the most advanced, making its debut at Carnegie Hall in 2008. The Orchestra's commitment to music education underscores its deep community involvement.

As the parent program of the Sarasota Music Festival, launched in 1965, the Sarasota Orchestra has cemented its reputation as a premier cultural institution. Each year, the Orchestra stages classical, pops, chamber music, and community outreach concerts, drawing music-lovers from across the region and the world.
