Forum Marinum Maritime Museum, Turku (must see)

Forum Marinum Maritime Museum is a maritime center located near Turku Castle. It was founded in 1999 when the Turku Maritime Museum and the Abo Akademi University Museum of Maritime History were merged.

The maritime museum is home to over 100 ships. They are viewable in the Linnanpuomi building and the boathouse in the museum's inner yard. Tourists can walk aboard the vessels during the summer months.

The primary exhibition of the museum is Work at Sea. Other permanent presentations include the history of the Suomen Joutsen, a steel-hulled full-rigged ship with three square-rigged masts, the history of the Bore ship, and the general history of Finnish shipbuilding and ship engine manufacturing.

The museum has a restaurant on site called Goran. It was named after the travel writer Göran Schildt, whose sailboat, named Daphne, is displayed in the middle of the restaurant, reminding everyone of unforgettable adventures.

Forum Marinum Maritime Museum offers interactive children's activities as well. Children can board ships that are sized just for them. They can take part in fishing demonstrations and family activities. There is also a gift shop for those patrons who wish to take home a souvenir.
