Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, Recife

Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, Recife

Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Pilar is a beautiful church that was built in 1680 on the place where the Fort St. George once stood. Fort St. George was destroyed during the resistance against the Dutch. During the construction of the church, materials from the destroyed fort were used due to a tight budget. The church is also famous for having its main chapel built in a form of a semi-spherical dome. In order to see the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, you have to turn right at the Rua do Pilar and pass 65 meters until you reach the church.
