Military Communications and Electronics Museum, Kingston

The Military Communications and Electronics Museum is a significant institution dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of military signals and communication. Established in 1961 and later relocated to its current purpose-built facility in 1996, this museum has been instrumental in documenting the evolution of military communications.

This museum's narrative covers the historical development of military communications, starting in 1903 and spanning key periods such as World War I, World War II, the Korean War, various NATO and United Nations peacekeeping missions, and the modern era of communications satellites.

One poignant exhibit, the Passchendaele display, illuminates the bravery of soldiers who operated wireless sets under heavy enemy fire, with their aerials shot down an astonishing average of twenty times per day.

Another captivating aspect of the museum is the opportunity for visitors to explore the inner workings of a truck, originally made in Windsor but extensively adapted to meet the operational needs of the Communications and Electronics (C & E) Branch of the Canadian Military, enabling the operation of a mobile telephone exchange.
