Náměstí Svobody (Liberty Square), Brno

Náměstí Svobody (Liberty Square), Brno (must see)

Liberty Square or Freedom Square is a central square in Brno. It is technically a triangle created by ancient trade routes and a stream that functioned as the city sewer in the 13th century.

Today's Liberty Square is surrounded by several interesting and important buildings. The House of the Lords of Lipa is a Renaissance-style building known for its etched biblical scenes. Klein Palace is a Renaissance Revival structure housing a series of shops and restaurants.

Other impressive buildings along the square include the House of Four Giants, the Commercial Bank, and the Omega Palace. Along with these buildings, sculptures dating from the late 17th century are installed in the square. Tourists will find a plague column that serves as a reminder to plague outbreaks. There are also two bronze fountains, a paving outline of the site of St. Nicholas Church, and a black granite clock that marks the time with falling marbles.
