Nuremberg Tribunal Building, Nuremberg

Nuremberg Tribunal Building, Nuremberg

The Nuremberg Trials, a series of military tribunals held by the Allied forces of World War II, prosecuted many prominent members of the political, military and economic leadership of Nazi Germany. The trials were held from 1945 to 1946 at the Palace of Justice. The first and best known of these trials was the Trial of the Major War Criminals before the International Military Tribunal, which tried 22 of the most important captured leaders of Nazi Germany. Nuremberg was considered the ceremonial birthplace of the Nazi Party, and hosted annual propaganda rallies. It was thus a fitting place to mark the party's symbolic demise. The spacious Palace of Justice was largely undamaged in the war.
