Palace on the Isle, Warsaw

Palace on the Isle, Warsaw

The Łazienki Palace, also referred to as the Palace on the Isle, is situated within Łazienki Park, where it effectively divides the river into two sections. Constructed in the latter part of the 18th century by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski in a Neoclassical architectural style, this edifice originally served as a bathhouse for the king but later transformed into a royal residence for the Polish Kings.

The palace boasts a cohesive facade design featuring a continuous entablature supported by imposing Corinthian pilasters, which connect the two stories of the building. At the top, a balustrade is adorned with statues depicting mythological figures. The northern facade is distinguished by a central pedimented portico, while the southern front features a deep central recess hidden behind a screen of Corinthian columns. In close proximity to the palace, visitors can explore picturesque canals, ponds, and well-maintained gardens.

Inside the palace, the interiors are lavishly adorned with intricate stucco decorations. Various chambers feature opulent plafonds and supraportes, and the walls are embellished with charming Delft tiles.
