Panagia Chrysaliniotissa (Our Lady of the Golden Flax Church), Nicosia

Panagia Chrysaliniotissa Church, Nicosia’s oldest church, was designed in the Byzantine style. It is believed that construction took place in 1450, initiated by Queen Eleni Palaiologou, the wife of King John II. Named in honor of an icon found in a flax field, an 11th century painting of the Mother of God, this church also houses a number of other precious icons.
