Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II (Vittorio Emanuele II Square), Pisa

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II (Vittorio Emanuele II Square), Pisa

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is a spacious square located at the end of Italia Street, in close proximity to the railway station. This square underwent significant urban redevelopment towards the close of the 19th century, resulting in the demolition of the medieval walls and the San Gilio gate to make way for its construction.

As you walk around the square in a clockwise direction, starting from the north, you'll come across notable landmarks such as the Chamber of Commerce building (Palazzo della Camera di Commercio), the neo-Gothic structures housing the Post Office and the Provincial Government (both built in 1929, with the latter originally serving as the Littorio Palace), and the rear side of the church of Sant'Antonio Abate. In the center of the square stands a monument dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II.

Vittorio Emanuele II Square offers a diverse range of unique medieval flavors, making it a captivating place to explore for anyone interested in historical and cultural experiences.
