Prinzhorn Collection, Heidelberg

Hans Prinzhorn was a psychiatrist who, by 1922, had collected nearly 5,000 works of art from almost 450 patients. These works not only inspired many modern artists, but also instigated the field of psychiatric art. In addition to the primary collection the Psychiatric Clinic has also accumulated works from other institutions around the world. The collection consists of wood sculptures, watercolors, drawings and collages, as well as oil paintings, fabric works, letters, notes and book drafts ranging from 1880 to the present day.

Editor's Note:
The museum is closed from August 31, 2019 until mid-March 2020 due to renovations.
