Taj Museum, Agra

Taj Museum, Agra

The Taj Museum was established in 1906 by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India. Originally, it was located in two hexagonal rooms next to the main entrance gateway. Khan Bahadur Maulvi Zafar Hussan modernized it in 1982.

Situated within the Taj Mahal complex, the museum is nestled in the Western Jal Mahal. It offers insights into the construction of the Taj Mahal and the Mughal period through its exhibits, which range from miniature paintings to manuscripts and weaponry.

The museum is divided into three galleries and a main hall. The first gallery showcases calligraphic art with jade articles and household items from the Mughal era. The second gallery displays paintings, including portraits of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, while the third focuses on drawings and paintings related to the mausoleum.

In the main room, visitors can view exclusive items such as royal documents and manuscripts dating back to the 17th century, providing a deeper understanding of Mughal history and the significance of the Taj Mahal.

As one of India's most renowned museums, the Taj Museum attracts visitors worldwide, serving as a vital link to the past and offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Taj Mahal complex.
