Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije (Slovenian Museum of Natural History), Ljubljana

Besides hosting temporary exhibitions, Slovenia's primary museum of natural history, established in 1821, boasts several notable collections. These include the renowned Zois Mineral Collection, Hohenwart's Mollusc Shell Collection (predominantly from the Indo-Pacific region), Ferdinand J. Schmidt Insect Collection (featuring intriguing specimens like the "narrow-necked" blind cave beetles, described in 1831 as the first cave insect), and various herbarium collections.

Visitors can also explore presentations of Proteus anguinus, dioramas showcasing alpine, wetland, and forest wildlife, an almost complete woolly mammoth skeleton, and a diverse array of reptiles, fishes, and vertebrate skeletons.

Conveniently located in Ljubljana's central district, near Tivoli Park, the Parliament, and the Opera House, the museum shares its premises with the National Museum of Slovenia. A fantastic opportunity to explore the wonders of natural history without worrying about admission fees.
