Saint Hierarch Nicholas Church, Chisinau

Saint Hierarch Nicholas Church, Chisinau

The Saint Hierarch Nicholas Church in Chisinau is a significant place of worship and an architectural monument of national importance. It was originally built in 1901 by architect V. Șiganco as the chapel of the zemstva hospital, founded by doctor Ivanov. The building is included in the Register of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the municipality of Chisinau, which recognizes its importance as a cultural and historical landmark in the region.

The church's architecture is eclectic and is based on Russian architectural styles. It is a basilica structure with three naves separated by cast iron columns. The main entrance is from the street, with a secondary entrance from the hospital. The narrow pronaos provides access to the cafas and the elevation above the collaterals. The main facade of the church is the only visible part that showcases the church's spatial structure, with a central, higher elevation corresponding to the central nave.

The Russian influence on the building's design is evident in the use of motifs such as the kokošnik or zakomara on the facade. The church's construction reflects the time it was built, using metal constructions and large windows to create a spacious interior. The upper part of the building features a circular arch.
