Beatrix Theater, Utrecht

Beatrix Theater, Utrecht

The Beatrix Theater is a theater and conference hall in Utrecht . The building is owned by the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht and the theater section is leased to Joop van den Ende Theater Productions on a long-term basis.

The theater now has about 1500 seats and is mainly used for musicals, concerts and other theatrical performances. During the day, the hall can be used for conferences and meetings, whether or not together with the exhibition floors and trading rooms in the adjacent Beatrix building.

In 1970 the Beatrix building , designed by architect Rein Fledderus , was opened with a large hall for 1100 people. From the 1970s until about the turn of the century, the name Jaarbeurs Congrescentrum was used for the building and the indoor hall.

In 1998 and 1999, the theater and conference hall and the facade of the Beatrix building on the Jaarbeursplein side were radically renovated to a design by architect Arno Meijs and then received 1130 seats. Also in 2003 a renovation took place. At the opening of the theatre, Joop van den Ende unveiled the 4.5 meter high statue Demasqué by Pépé Grégoire , which stands at the entrance.

On March 3, 2016, asbestos was found in the rear building. This had to be removed before the theater could be used again. As a result, performances of the musical The Bodyguard were canceled until work to remove the asbestos was completed. To compensate for this, additional performances were programmed. The SGP Youth Day , which was to take place in the theater on March 5, could therefore not take place and was moved to the NBC congress building in Nieuwegein .
