The Tall Ship Glenlee, Glasgow

The Tall Ship Glenlee in Glasgow is a remarkable piece of maritime history and a significant tourist attraction. This steel-hulled three-masted barque was originally built in 1896 at Port Glasgow, specifically for Glasgow owners. Throughout its operational life, Glenlee underwent several name changes, known as Islamount and Clarastella with different owners, and served as the sail training ship Galatea in the Spanish Navy from 1922.

In 1993, this historic vessel reclaimed its original name, Glenlee, and embarked on a new journey as a museum ship. It is now permanently moored at the Riverside Museum on Pointhouse Quay, Glasgow, proudly known as The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour.

As a museum ship, Glenlee is not only a preserved piece of nautical heritage but also an active educational and cultural hub. It offers a range of educational programmes, making it an ideal destination for learners of all ages. The ship hosts various events, including exhibitions, which provide insight into its rich history and the wider maritime narrative of the region.
