Tour le Triangle (Triangle Tower), Montpellier

The Tour le Triangle is the second tallest building in the city of Montpellier . It dominates the city center at more than 72 meters in height, with its breathtaking view of the Place de la Comédie . It is also the second tallest building in Languedoc-Roussillon , just after the Tour d'Assas , itself in Montpellier. This tower is certainly the symbol of the city of Montpellier and the signature of its urban panorama .

In the 1970s , Montpellier being booming in the tertiary sector , the municipality decided to create a new city center on the site of a military field called "the Engineering Polygon". The Triangle becomes the point of contact between the old city and the new Montpellier at the same time as the point of junction of the axes of circulation and the ring roads bringing the inhabitants of the north, the east and the west of the city, faculties as industrial districts, in the area of intense commercial activity that is the Triangle/Polygon.

At the foot of the Triangle tower is the Galerie du Triangle shopping mall . In direct proximity, the "Polygone" is a large three-storey shopping center, inaugurated in 1975, in place of the former military ground. The southwestern limit of the Galerie du Triangle corresponds to the site of the former Esplanade station and its access viaduct. This station was the terminus of the Train from Montpellier to Palavas and these infrastructures were destroyed in the early 1970s to make way for the housing complex still visible.

It is easy to spot thanks to its stepped shape which gives it a very original touch. In 2004, the north facade was partly repainted. In addition to the functions of a hotel and shops, the tower houses offices and housing.

The Sauramps bookshop, established in Montpellier for more than sixty years, right in the center of the town centre, is the second most important, independent French bookshop. It covers an area of 2 500 m2. It is located on the ground floor of the Triangle. Built in 1970, the step-shaped structure is at the front of the architectural complex of Antigone Quartier.
