The Heavenly Cathedral, Sharm El Sheikh

The Heavenly Cathedral, a striking Coptic monument situated atop a hilltop, offers a glimpse into St. John's prophetic vision of the world's end. Constructed in 2010, its twin rectangular towers command the skyline with a graceful architectural style. Inside, meticulous frescoes and murals adorn the walls and ceiling, illustrating biblical narratives and the lives of saints with vivid detail.

Completed over two years by a team of 19 artists, these artworks add to the cathedral's allure. Additionally, the cathedral boasts impressive stained-glass windows that contribute to its aesthetic appeal. Despite its age, the cathedral remains one of the oldest in the country, if not the world. Visitors are captivated by the vibrant frescoes, paintings, and stained glass, as well as the unique experience of a glass-bottomed boat ride.

Attending a mass or service enhances the visit, as the ambiance is described as hauntingly beautiful. Guided tours are recommended to fully appreciate the significance of the cathedral, led by knowledgeable and friendly guides. Many visitors note the contrast between the cathedral and the adjacent mosque, and liken its atmosphere to that of the renowned Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, albeit with a lighter feel. The entire artistic endeavor was carried out by just two artists and their seventeen assistants.
