After a long, long bus ride, the Mexican artist who had been my sole companion from Panajachel announced that we were finally arriving. Exhausted, I dragged myself from the main plaza to my hostel. Little did I know that I had reached the highlight of my trip- San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico. I had debated long and hard about coming this far. Yet, I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. For those who don’t know it, Chiapas produces world class coffee. Being fond of a daily coffee or ten, this is a strong selling point for me. Coffee drinkers should try the Degustacion Especial at Carajillo (website in Spanish). Also, the coffee at Casa Cafeologo (website in Spanish) may be served without a smile, but it’s damn good. Alternatively, those who like to take their coffee in a friendlier, more homely environment will love the Cuban lady at Café del Arte (Facebook page). However you like your coffee, San Cristobal has you covered.

San Cristobal is a great base for further exploration in Chiapas. Looking for incredible scenery? Take a tour to Sumidero Canyon. Want to explore Mayan ruins?
