Friends and acquaintances know that I like my coffee. Indeed, it no longer surprises them to see me exploring volcanoes in Guatemala or El Salvador in search of a great cup of coffee. Therefore, it was no surprise to most when I announced my intention to visit Colombia. The trip from Milan was long and required a stopover in Madrid (never a hardship). However, as soon as I regained some energy, I set off in search of the best cafes in Bogota. Welcome to my quest!

Amor Perfecto was a trailblazer on the Bogota coffee scene. Originating in Chapinero, one of the city’s cooler barrios, it now has outlets throughout the capital. The mothership is, however, an excellent starting point for a coffee tour of Bogota.

From the sunflowers at the entrance to the light-filled glass interior, this cafe is the definition of bright and comfortable. Knowledgeable staff will explain the distinctive qualities of a range of coffees from regions throughout Colombia.

As patrons sip their favourite beverage, interior windows provide a glimpse of coffee roasting and ongoing workshops. This cafe actually serves as a centre of coffee education.
