Since moving here, I have spent a significant amount of time exploring Charlottesville, the surrounding countryside and the nearby mountains.

In June, I challenged myself to take at least one picture of this gorgeous area each day, a small self-assigned project that has resulted in a few great Charlottesville photos and a bunch of fun.

From the Historic Downtown Mall to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed University of Virginia, and from the Albemarle County countryside to Shenandoah National Park, this area in central Virginia is home to attractions that are nothing short of exceptional. Let’s also not overlook the presence of several great craft breweries and many world-class wineries. This is, after all, the birthplace of wine-making in the United States. Add to that the homes of no fewer than three former U.S. Presidents—James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe—and you have a truly superb destination.

I absolutely love living in Charlottesville. I think it’s astonishing that a city this small in size (fewer than 50,000 inhabitants) has this many amazing attractions.
