No trip to Hawai’i is ever complete if you don’t grab yourself a shave ice (by the way it’s not Hawaiian shave ice if it’s shavED ice). It’s pretty imperative that everyone that goes to Hawai’i must treat themselves with a shave ice. Locals are no exception. With the perfect (but sometimes hot) weather, shave ice is a treat for the locals. Here, I give you 5 places you can go to for some delicious shave ice (in no particular order) to cool off with.

Popular among the locals, Waiola Shave Ice is one of the places you can go to for some really good shave ice that isn’t chunky. The first time we went here was in 2007 when Charles’ best friend’s aunt, who lives in Hawai’i, recommended this place. At that time, I wasn’t as “adventurous” when it came to food and I believe I ordered something really generic. With that said, I wasn’t too impressed. Then I went back a few years later and tried POG (passion, orange, guava for those not familiar) and I kind of fell in love. Don’t forget to top it off with condense milk and I like to add mochi in mine! They have several locations now throughout the island! ......
