Take a free walking tour of Gamla Stan. On this tour, you’ll not only see the most famous sights in the Old Town, like Stortorget, the Royal Palace and the Stockholm Cathedral, but you’ll hear plenty of interesting facts, tall tales and dark legends from the city’s 750-year history.
These tour guides work for tips, so although it’s not entirely free, it is a great and inexpensive way to see and learn about the city. For times and tour info, visit freetourstockholm.com and stockholmfreetour.com.
Watch the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace. The timing changes depending on the season, so check the website before you head out there. Also, try to get there early or you’ll end up hearing the ceremony and not actually seeing it (trust me on this one). ...... (follow the instructions below for accessing the rest of this article).
