Trieste in 20 Minutes, Trieste, Italy (B)

If you’re like me and have laughably atrocious time management skills then 20 minutes might seem like a perfectly reasonable amount of time to go for a lovely short walk to take in some of the sites of a gorgeous city.

Trust me it isn’t. Having been told by a well travelled German Irish guy called Frank (with possibly the most delightful accent outside of Somerset) that a lot of the sites of Trieste were very close to our hostel I decided that I would have plenty of time to see them and still get my bus to Zagreb in 30 minutes.

We were staying at the Hotel Alabarda which is not the cheapest hostel but serves a good breakfast, has decent showers and is in a fantastic location.

Starting from there head to the Canal Grande di Trieste, a small inlet from the sea with some bridges, again not Venice but charming in the sunshine nonetheless. At one end there is both the impressive catholic church of St. Anthony Thaumaturge and the St. Spyridon Orthodox Temple.

On the middle bridge there is a statue to the Irish writer James Joyce who taught English at the Berlitz Language School (including to the Italian writer Italo Sveva) and propped up many of the bars in the area. ...... (follow the instructions below for accessing the rest of this article).
