Vienna Day 3, Vienna, Austria (B)
Day 3: After a quick breakfast in our room we head out to the Kunsthistorisches Museum (http://www.khm.at/en/?cHash=dfb045333efd096a1ea1afd262c4a608, €11/£8/$12 entry for students, Combi-ticket €20/£16/$22 allows entry into all museums for a day, well worth it).
The building itself astonishes us by being even grander than its sister across the garden; marble and gold leaf were evidently flavour of the month back then.

The ground floor contains the imperial family’s trove of raided treasures including room after room of mummified Egyptian corpses with exquisitely painted and carved sarcophagi.
We move on to the Greco-Roman section and see a dazzling array of gold brooches and jewellery with filigree so detailed that it blows my mind as to how they could have done it thousands of years ago (surpassed only in craftsmanship by the jewellery of the Staffordshire Hoard that resides at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery http://www.staffordshirehoard.org.uk/). ......
