Close to such major attractions as the Empire State Building and right in the heart of the city is the small ethnic enclave of Koreatown. As you amble through the neighborhood, you will pass by consumer electronics stores, beauty salons, bookstores, supermarkets and much more. The main hub of the area is Korea Way. According to the New York City Korean Chamber of Commerce there are approximately 100 small businesses here. Come to experience the many delights of Korean cuisine in its restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores. At night there is a superlative choice of Korean specialties and delicacies on the restaurant tables. Many eateries stay open until early in the morning to keep up with the insatiable demand. Use your walk around Koreatown as an excuse to be bold and try something new to you. Sample dishes with such exotic names as Dak Ddong Jip (chicken-gizzard stir fry) and Buddae Jiggae (a thick Korean stew). Before or after your meal, head to one of the karaoke clubs and step up to the microphone or watch others having a go. Round off your Koreatown experience with a relaxing treatment in a 24-hour spa. A visit to the neighborhood is a wonderful way to learn about and experience Korean culture.
