Melbourne City Center Shopping (Self Guided), Melbourne

For some serious shopping, take your wallet or purse over to Melbourne's city center for its collection of shops, stores and malls. The star attraction is Bourke Street Mall, an outdoor shopping precinct that is only open to pedestrians and trams. Here you can stroll through the aisles of David Jones and Myer, Melbourne's two main department stores.

Among their many gems are fashion and beauty brands as well as beautiful and practical items for the home. David Jones is spread across three buildings, while Myer has nine levels filled with shops. Bourke Street Mall is also home to Melbourne's GPO. This Victorian-era building was purpose built for the General Post Office in 1864, but is now a shopping arcade which houses the first presence in Australia of Swedish retail giant H&M.

From high fashion to everyday wear and electrical goods, you can find just about any item you need at Bourke Street and some of its other exciting shopping destinations are the Centerpoint Shopping Center, the Royal Arcade and Melbourne Central. For the latest clothing looks from Australian and international designers, visit the Emporium, a large retail space with a network of shops and walkways under one roof. There is also the café court situated in one of Emporium’s beautiful atriums.
