Savor some traditional Italian fare when you visit Boston's North End. This neighborhood is known as "Little Italy" and has been home to a vibrant Italian community for many years. Bostonians and tourists simply flock here to eat. What they find is a lip-smacking range of approximately 100 restaurants and bakeries. As you walk through the streets the heady aromas of garlic, fresh breads and pastries seduce you and lead you to restaurant tables. Whether you want casual dining in a pizzeria, hearty lasagnas or fine dining, you will find an option to suit your particular tastes. Hanover Street is considered the locale's "Main Street" and features many restaurants, boutiques and pastry shops. Among them are Mike's Pastry and Modern Pastry, two places known for their delicious creations. After you have finished your meal or snack, relax with a shot of strong coffee and then walk off your food. If your sweet tooth has a hankering for something scrummy or there are children in your party, stop off at an ice cream parlor. If you want to purchase some Italian treats, browse the authentic Italian markets. Another good location for food in the neighborhood is Salem Street and its butcher, coffee and florist shops. There are also bakeries, fish markets and much more. In addition to all the fabulous foods, North End is home to Paul Revere House, a 17th-century small wooden building where Revere, a Revolutionary War patriot lived.
