If you love browsing or buying old antiques, curiosities or fascinating pieces of art, then one of the places you should definitely check out while you are in Amsterdam is Spiegelkwartier ("mirror quarter"). This has been quietly and studiously selling Dutch art and antiques for more than 80 years and is the go to place for antiques in the city. Give yourself at least a couple of days to explore the many treasures inside more than 70 antique shops and galleries in the area. There is an astounding array of pictures, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, tribal artifacts and Asian collectibles from numerous eras and countries. Among the items you might see are works by Dutch masters, sea navigational maps from the 16th century, old tapestries, clocks and Art Deco jewelry. The locale consists of two principle streets, Niewe Spiegelstraat and Spiegelgracht Street. The dealers you will meet here are not only known for the quality of the goods they sell, but also for their superior knowledge, gleaned from many years’ worth of experience. If you are in the market for something fascinating or a little unusual for the home, you are bound to find what you are looking for in the stores of this enthralling neighborhood.
