Union Square Area Shopping & Dining (Self Guided), San Francisco

If shopping is your thing then Union Square is nothing short of paradise. The large public square is surrounded by a fantastic concentration of upscale boutiques, department stores, gift shops and art galleries, making it one of the world’s premier shopping districts.

Come here for clothes, electronics, art, antiques, music and much more. Many of the stores open until 8pm and some even later than that, giving you plenty of time to browse and buy. There are lots of famous local, national and international retail names here, such as Apple, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms and Saks Fifth Avenue.

In among all the stores and boutiques is an extensive range of restaurants, bars and outdoor cafés.
A pleasant way to pass the time here, perhaps between bouts of shopping is to grab a takeaway coffee and sit on the steps of the square watching the city go by.

Nearby is Maiden Lane, a pedestrianized walkway that is home to luxury retailers, including Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent. There is also a clutch of cafés with outdoor tables. Whether you are looking for a fabulous new outfit, an expensive jewelry item, something for the home or a delicious meal, Union Square is a wonderful stop on your tour of the city.
